Second Saturday Make and Take at the Hawaii State Art Museum

When it comes to dazzling the mind and mesmerizing the senses, no place on earth does it quite like the Hawaiian Islands. These sandy pieces of paradise that sit snuggled into the sea are known and well-loved for a landscape that beckons travelers from near and far to come admire a vast and versatile scene. From simmering volcanoes to sugar white sand beaches, there’s something about the contrast in Hawaii that makes for an unforgettable vision. Dazzling waters and swaying palm trees make way for dramatic cliffsides and dense jungles filled with wildlife and tropical foliage. Captivating as it is thrilling to be here, it comes as no surprise that many who find their feet on Hawaiian soil are inspired to capture their experience through color and creative artistry. Recognizing the power of Hawaii to inspire art, the Second Saturday Make and Take at the Hawaii State Art Museum invites visitors to come make something one of a kind and magical the second Saturday of every month beginning in May.

A Place to Get Creative

Beginning May 17, 2019, the Hawaii State Art Museum opens its doors to those who are compelled to create something wonderful. Located at 250 South Hotel Street in downtown Honolulu, the Hawaii State Art Museum sits on the second floor of the No.1 Capital District Building. Beginning at 11:00 am, Make and Take activities are in full swing for guests at no cost to attend. Every session plays host to a different creative project and participants are encouraged to allow at least 30 minutes to get the creative juices flowing and complete a masterpiece all their own. Once the art project is finished, you’re more than welcome to take it home and proudly display it. While adults will love this activity, children are equally excited to be a part of these Make and Take projects.

When you’re done creating something incredible, be sure to save time to explore the exhibit artwork as well. Second-floor galleries are open to the public on these special event days which means a creative morning can be extended through to an immersive and artistic afternoon. Make and Take events end at 3:00 pm.
